Spain can be a great place to find things to do. You can travel the streets of Barcelona, explore the shops and restaurants of Madrid, or you can catch a couple of waves in o­ne of the best surfing locations in the world. With it’s excellent climate and consistency of waves, Spain renowned for exporting professional surfers.

If you find yourself in Spain and want to hit a couple of beaches, you can start out at is Andalucia. If you’re flying in, the closets airport is Jerez de la Frontera. It’s about a forty-five minute drive from the beach and there are at least three flights a day from London.

If you’re looking to surf the same waves as the professionals, Mundaka is believed to be o­ne of the best surfing spots in Spain. Every year you can find thousands of surfers catching waves o­n beaches of Mundaka. This small town is located in-between Bilbao and San Sebastian.

If you’re an experienced surfer, you can try your skills at Menekoz. Many surfers rate the waves as “totally epic”. Although most will find that weekends are pretty crowded, the weekdays offer a wide-open chance at adventure. But watch out for their famous rips and undertow.

Surfing in Spain can be an excellent way to build your surfing repertoire up. The hot summers offer a great season and the beaches are some of the best in the world. The surf season usually begins in September and ends in April, which is great for US surfers because it gives us a break from the cold weather we experience. Always make sure that you have a full wet suit ready though. The water can get pretty cold in Spain.
